EUGENE, Ore. — Before sunrise, a lively wind tumbles through the valley, sending wet leaves skittering past porch lights and down quiet streets. The Pacific storm engine is revved up this Saturday, promising one of the most turbulent fall weekends so far for Eugene and the southern Willamette Valley.

The National Weather Service in Portland has a Wind Advisory in effect through Saturday night, with gusts expected to reach up to 45 mph. After midday, showers will blossom with a chance of embedded thunderstorms, and the most generous rainfall is slated for late afternoon into the evening. Brief, intense downpours could knock down visibility along I-5 and Highway 126, particularly to the north near Corvallis. New rainfall totals are projected to land between one-half and three-quarters of an inch.

Winds should gradually settle late Saturday night, though scattered showers will persist into Sunday. Afternoon temperatures will top out near 63°F Sunday before another steadier burst of rain redevelops toward evening. Monday’s first half looks damp and gray, but forecast models point to high pressure building in by Tuesday, ushering in calmer, drier conditions through midweek.

With a quick-hitting, leaf-clogging storm on tap, the next 36 hours are ideal for battening down loose Halloween decorations, checking gutters, and clearing storm drains to keep runoff flowing. The start of Halloween week appears mild and dry, giving trick-or-treat plans a welcome respite from the recent soggy streak.

Long-range signals hint at a chillier turn as November approaches—and the Pacific still has more in the pipeline.

Five-day outlook for Eugene, OR:
– Saturday: 56/44 — Windy with heavy rain; a rumble of thunder possible.

– Monday: 56/44 — Chance of rain in the morning, then gradual clearing.
– Tuesday: 65/46 — Mostly cloudy, trending drier.
