Fargo, ND — Much of North Dakota, South Dakota, and western Minnesota will be under Wind Advisories on Sunday, as a strong southerly flow brings hazardous gusts that could disrupt travel and cause spotty power issues.
The advisories are in effect from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CDT for communities including Fargo, Bismarck, Jamestown, Aberdeen, Sisseton, Grand Forks, Valley City, and Wahpeton.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service offices in Grand Forks, Bismarck, and Aberdeen expect sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph, with occasional gusts up to 50 mph. The strongest winds are most likely in open country and on elevated terrain.
These conditions may blow around unsecured outdoor items—think trash cans, patio furniture, or seasonal decorations—and make driving difficult for high-profile vehicles, especially along east–west highways where crosswinds will be most intense. A few tree limbs or power lines could be brought down, leading to isolated outages.
Residents are encouraged to secure loose objects, check road conditions before heading out, and use extra caution while driving through the late morning and afternoon. Winds should gradually ease by Sunday evening as the weather system moves east.
