SPOKANE, Wash. – A vigorous Pacific storm is sweeping into eastern Washington this morning, tugging at porch flags and skittering leaves through Spokane as the first hints of winter arrive. By midday, rain will expand, winds will howl, and the region will tilt toward its first brush with mountain snow.

The National Weather Service has a Wind Advisory in effect through early Sunday. Gusts may top 45 to 50 mph in exposed locations, especially along the I-90 corridor between Spokane and Ritzville. Secure holiday decorations, trash bins, and lightweight patio furniture before winds peak later today.

Rain turns widespread by afternoon and could come down heavily at times. Saturday’s high should reach near 56°F, then drop quickly after sunset. Snow levels fall to around 3,300 feet by early Sunday, setting the stage for the season’s first flakes over the higher passes late tonight. Travelers headed east toward Lookout Pass or north along Highway 2 should plan for wet roads and pockets of slush by late Sunday morning.

Sunday remains breezy with scattered showers and highs near 52°F. Cooler air settles in Monday with just spotty drizzle and a more subdued wind. A chilly pattern locks in through midweek—daytime highs in the low 50s and overnight lows flirting with freezing—raising early odds of a Halloween frost in colder valleys.

The overall trend turns drier next week, but the cool air sticks around, hinting that a brisk start to November may be on the way.

Five-day outlook for Spokane:
– Sat: 56/39 – Rain likely; wind gusts up to 45 mph.
– Sun: 52/35 – Showers, breezy; snow levels near 3,000 ft.
– Mon: 51/34 – Isolated showers, patchy fog possible.
– Tue: 54/39 – Mostly cloudy with a drying trend.
– Wed: 57/33 – Partly sunny; cooler nights persist.
