Houston, TX — The National Weather Service office in Houston/Galveston has extended Severe Thunderstorm Watch 631 through 7 a.m. Saturday as bands of storms continue to sweep across southeast Texas.
The watch includes 13 counties, notably Harris, Galveston, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Liberty, and Brazoria, along with surrounding areas. Cities under the advisory include Houston, The Woodlands, Sugar Land, Conroe, Galveston, Pearland, and Angleton.
Forecasters caution that strong wind gusts, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours are possible early this morning as the storm cluster moves east. Localized flooding may develop, especially in low-lying neighborhoods and urban corridors where drainage can be overwhelmed.
The most intense storms are expected to weaken near sunrise, though isolated thunderstorms could linger into the morning commute. Drivers should slow down, never attempt to cross flooded roads, and keep an eye on official weather updates in case additional warnings are issued.
Conditions are forecast to improve later in the morning as drier air filters into the region, reducing storm activity and easing travel impacts.
