Jackson, Mississippi — The National Weather Service office in Jackson has placed parts of Mississippi, northeast Louisiana, and southeast Arkansas under a Flood Watch from 9 PM Saturday through Sunday afternoon, citing the risk of heavy rain and possible flash flooding.

Communities included in the watch area include Jackson, Vicksburg, Greenwood, Yazoo City, Natchez, Monroe, Greenville, and Lake Village.

Forecasters say a series of slow-moving, training thunderstorms may sweep over the same locations repeatedly, producing multiple rounds of intense rainfall. This could lead to excessive runoff and rapid rises in rivers, creeks, and other low-lying or poor-drainage areas. Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches are possible by early Sunday, with localized higher amounts where storms linger the longest.

Residents in flood-prone spots should keep a close eye on forecasts and be prepared to move to higher ground if a Flash Flood Warning is issued. Never drive through flooded roads—most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles, and even shallow water can be dangerous.
