A gentle start to November is on tap for the High Plains, but a chill may arrive just in time for the holiday rush. NOAA’s October 24, 2025 outlook points to warmer-than-average temperatures and sparse precipitation early in the month across Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, and the Dakotas. That pattern won’t last, though. By mid-November, a colder push from Canada is expected to slide south, opening the door to light snow or a wintry mix in parts of western Nebraska and eastern Colorado before Thanksgiving.

Forecasters aren’t calling for a blockbuster winter storm yet, but quick temperature drops and brisk winds are likely to accompany passing fronts. Areas north of I-70 could see patchy frost and spotty flurries in the November 18–25 window.

The bottom line for the High Plains: a comfortable, mild first half of November gives way to a cooler, breezy stretch heading into the holiday—a timely reminder that winter is waiting just beyond the horizon.
