A 26-year-old man was detained for abduction after reportedly using a GECU employee as a “shield” in a hostage scenario on Tuesday, October 21, in Northeast El Paso, according to the El Paso Police Department.

Luis Fernando Colomo, 26, was charged with aggravated kidnapping and use of a shield/hostage. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $75,000 bond.

On October 21, officers were summoned to the GECU location at 9435 Dyer St. in response to a reported kidnapping.

According to witnesses, Colomo entered the branch “acting nervously.” Later, witnesses stated Colomo warned an employee that “armed men were following him,” according to the EPPD.

Colomo then seized the employee, implying he had a weapon, and forced him into an office. Later, outside the premises, Colomo stated that he intended to use the employee as a “shield.”

When police were called, the employee escaped. Officers quickly located Colomo and took him into custody, according to EPPD.

Colomo was arrested on Friday, Oct. 10, on a warrant for attacking a security guard at the Sun Metro Bus Terminal at 9348 Dyer St. He was freed on a personal recognizance bail, according to the EPPD.
