A fresh dose of wintry weather is poised to arrive in the Northern Rockies as November begins. NOAA’s October 24, 2025 outlook highlights a 20–40% slight risk for heavy snow across western Montana, northern Idaho, and northwestern Wyoming from November 1 to 4. A push of cold Canadian air colliding with incoming Pacific moisture could deliver several inches to higher terrain, with lighter accumulations possible on lower passes.

After this early burst, temperatures are expected to moderate briefly in the middle of the month. Even so, forecasters indicate another window for snow around November 15 to 20, with the greatest chances centered on the Yellowstone region and the mountains of southern Montana.

If you’re traveling through the Rockies during these periods, plan for slick roads, reduced visibility, and the kind of early-season conditions that can catch drivers off guard. Check local forecasts, allow extra time, and make sure your vehicle is winter-ready.

All signs point to the Rockies being the first U.S. region to notch measurable pre-Thanksgiving snowfall this year—an early signal that winter is waking up across the West.
