New York, NY — A sharp cooldown is setting up across the tri-state, with the National Weather Service New York issuing a Frost Advisory for parts of Connecticut, New York, and northern New Jersey Saturday night, followed by a Freeze Watch for late Sunday night into Monday morning.
The Frost Advisory is in effect from 11 PM Saturday until 9 AM Sunday and includes Northern Fairfield, Northern New Haven, Northern Middlesex, and Northern New London in Connecticut; Western Passaic County in New Jersey; and Putnam and Orange Counties in New York.
Temperatures are expected to slip into the low to mid-30s overnight, leading to frost formation in rural and sheltered locations. A stronger burst of cold air late Sunday night could drop readings to around 28°F–31°F, prompting the Freeze Watch and raising the likelihood of subfreezing conditions.
Forecasters note that frost and freeze conditions may harm or kill sensitive plants, effectively ending the growing season for many inland areas. Residents should bring potted plants indoors, cover delicate vegetation, and disconnect garden hoses ahead of the cold snap.
Skies will stay mostly clear through Sunday, with sunshine pushing afternoon highs into the 50s. Another cold night is expected Sunday into Monday morning as the chill deepens.
