Houston, TX / Shreveport, LA — A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for much of Southeast Texas until 7:00 a.m. Saturday. Nearby portions of Northeast Texas, southern Arkansas, and northern Louisiana are also under a Level 2 (Slight Risk) for severe weather tonight.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Houston–Galveston warn that fast-moving storms could deliver:
– Wind gusts up to 70 mph
– Quarter-size hail (around one inch)
– A few isolated tornadoes
Communities including Houston, Beaumont, College Station, and Galveston should prepare for rapidly intensifying storms after dark. The threat extends east into Shreveport, Longview, Natchitoches, and Monroe, where similar hazards are possible overnight.
According to the NWS office in Shreveport, the most significant risk is expected late this evening into early Sunday, focused mainly along and south of the I-20 corridor. In addition to damaging winds and large hail, heavy rain may produce localized flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.
