The former human resources manager at Kane Community Living Center in Glen Hazel was arrested after Allegheny County Police claimed she intercepted more than $76,000 in undeserved paychecks and deposited $48,000 of net pay into a bogus bank account.

Detectives said they got a tip in September, which led to the arrest of Heather Dietz, a facility employee. Dietz’s niece, referred to as ‘Jane Doe’ in court records, worked as a paid intern at Kane in 2023 before leaving to attend to school.

Police say Dietz acknowledged keeping her niece ‘on the books’ at Allegheny County Payroll since the end of her internship in September 2023. Dietz is accused of continuing to register her niece’s name on the county payroll. She allegedly falsified her niece’s signature after paychecks were issued and transferred them into a fictitious bank account.

She informed authorities that her niece had no knowledge of the bank account, which Dietz allegedly opened at the Greater Pittsburgh Federal Credit Union. Police claim that security film shows Dietz depositing wages intended for her niece.

Police have charged Dietz with a variety of offenses, including theft, fraud, and forgery.

Channel 11 asked Allegheny County officials about the inquiry, specifically why and how it remained undiscovered for so long. The police directed us to the criminal complaint and assured us of no further comments at this time.
