Honolulu, HI — The National Weather Service office in Honolulu has issued a Red Flag Warning through 6 p.m. Saturday, as strong easterly winds and low humidity combine to create dangerous wildfire conditions across much of Hawaii.
The warning covers leeward areas of every island, including Oahu (Honolulu), Maui, Lanai, Molokai, Kauai, and Hawaii Island. Forecasters expect sustained east winds of 20 to 35 mph, with localized gusts up to 55 mph.
Relative humidity could dip to around 40 percent, increasing the potential for rapid fire spread. The highest risk period is expected from late morning into the afternoon on both Friday and Saturday, when winds and dryness peak.
Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning, secure loose items that could become windborne, and immediately report any signs of smoke or fire. Under these conditions, any new ignition may grow quickly and become difficult to control.
The Red Flag Warning remains in effect until Saturday evening, with winds forecast to ease somewhat as high pressure shifts farther east of the islands.
