Medford, OR — Powerful winds are set to whip across southern Oregon and far northern California on Saturday, with the National Weather Service in Medford issuing multiple alerts for dangerous gusts that could topple trees, knock out power, and make travel treacherous.

High Wind Warning: South Central Oregon Coast
Communities including Bandon, Coos Bay, North Bend, Port Orford, and Reedsport are under a High Wind Warning from 4 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Forecasters expect sustained southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts pushing close to 60 mph along coastal capes and exposed headlands.

Wind Advisory: Inland and Mountain Areas
A Wind Advisory is in place through 8 p.m. Saturday for a broad area encompassing Central Siskiyou County, Modoc County, and portions of Douglas, Curry, Josephine, Klamath, and Lake counties. Winds are projected at 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph especially near mountain passes and ridgelines.

Travel Hazards
Crosswinds and blowing debris could make driving dangerous. Expect the most challenging conditions on Highway 101 near Cape Blanco, Interstate 5 near Weed, and Highways 31, 395, and 140.

How to Prepare
– Secure outdoor furniture, decorations, and trash bins to prevent damage.
– Avoid unnecessary travel during the peak wind hours, particularly if driving high-profile vehicles.
– Plan for possible power outages: charge devices and gather flashlights, batteries, and essentials.
– Steer clear of downed power lines and report outages to your utility provider.
– Use extra caution near trees and in areas prone to falling branches.

Winds are expected to remain strong through Saturday evening. Stay tuned to local forecasts and alerts for updates as conditions evolve.
