Houston, TX — The National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston has extended a Severe Thunderstorm Watch through 5 a.m. Saturday as strong storms continue moving across southeast Texas.
The watch, previously set to expire at 3 a.m., now includes the following counties:
– Grimes
– Houston
– Madison
– Trinity
– Walker
Forecasters caution that damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning, heavy downpours, and pockets of hail are possible during the pre-dawn hours. Additional scattered thunderstorms may develop overnight before gradually weakening near sunrise.
Residents are urged to take precautions:
– Stay indoors and away from windows during thunderstorms.
– Avoid flooded roadways and never drive through standing water.
– Keep a reliable way to receive weather alerts overnight.
The storm system is expected to shift east by mid-morning, bringing quieter conditions to much of the region. Even so, lingering showers may persist into Saturday, and officials advise keeping an eye on updated forecasts.
