Riverton, WY — The National Weather Service office in Riverton has posted multiple Winter Weather Advisories for western Wyoming, warning of heavy mountain snow, strong gusts, and hazardous travel through midday Monday.
The advisories begin at 11 p.m. Saturday and encompass the Wind River Mountains (East and West), the Salt River and Wyoming Ranges, and the Absaroka Mountains.
Snow amounts will vary by elevation: the Wind River Mountains are projected to pick up 12–18 inches above 10,000 feet, with 6–12 inches between 9,000 and 10,000 feet. The Salt River and Wyoming Ranges could see 6–14 inches above 8,000 feet. In the Absaroka Mountains, 6–12 inches are expected above 9,000 feet.
Winds may gust as high as 60 mph, especially across ridgelines and exposed mountain passes, leading to blowing snow and sharply reduced visibility. Travel will be very difficult along mountain routes, including Union Pass, South Pass, and Salt River Pass, where 2–8 inches of accumulation is anticipated.
