Medford, OR — A potent wind event is set to sweep the south-central and southern Oregon coast on Saturday, with the National Weather Service (NWS) issuing a High Wind Warning and Wind Advisory for communities including Bandon, Coos Bay, North Bend, Port Orford, and Gold Beach.
According to NWS Medford, southwest winds will intensify overnight and strengthen into Saturday morning. Sustained winds of 25 to 40 mph are expected, with gusts reaching up to 65 mph in the most exposed areas.
The High Wind Warning is in effect from 4 a.m. to 5 p.m. PDT Saturday. A Wind Advisory remains active until 8 p.m. for coastal ranges and exposed headlands, keeping conditions blustery through the evening.
The strongest winds are anticipated across capes and headlands and along Highway 101, where high-profile vehicles may face challenging crosswinds. The warning area includes Curry, Coos, and Douglas Counties.
Forecasters caution that the storm could bring down trees, scatter debris, and trigger scattered power outages—particularly in exposed coastal spots such as Cape Blanco, Humbug Mountain, and Port Orford.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, use extra caution when driving, and prepare for possible power interruptions through Saturday evening.
