A live training operation led by the New York State Police is underway today across several key government sites in downtown Albany. The exercise spans the Capitol Building, the Legislative Office Building, the Robert Abrams Building, and portions of the Empire State Plaza.
During the drill, access will be temporarily restricted. Officials say the Capitol and Legislative Office Building will be closed, sections of the Empire State Plaza concourse will be off-limits, and the visitor parking lot beneath the plaza will also be unavailable.
An increased law enforcement presence is expected throughout the day. Authorities stress there is no public threat and ask residents and visitors to avoid the area while operations are in progress.
The training is designed to strengthen emergency preparedness and streamline coordination among agencies serving the Capitol complex.
Drivers and pedestrians in downtown Albany should anticipate short delays and limited access until the exercise concludes later today.
