Goodland, KS — The National Weather Service office in Goodland has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for parts of northwest and west-central Kansas and southwest Nebraska, in effect through 11 a.m. CDT (10 a.m. MDT) on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
Forecasters expect visibility to fall to a quarter mile or less at times overnight and into early Saturday, creating hazardous travel. The advisory covers the following areas:
– Kansas counties: Cheyenne, Rawlins, Decatur, Norton, Sherman, Thomas, Sheridan, and Graham
– Nebraska counties: Dundy, Hitchcock, and Red Willow
Communities likely to be impacted include Goodland, Colby, Hill City, Atwood, McCook, and Norton. Patchy fog is anticipated to expand and thicken overnight, with the lowest visibilities developing toward daybreak. Drivers along Interstate 70 and U.S. Highways 36 and 83 should be prepared for rapid visibility drops and slick spots where condensation accumulates.
Travel tips during dense fog:
– Reduce speed and increase following distance
– Use low-beam headlights; avoid high beams
– Allow extra time and be ready for sudden slowdowns
Western portions of the advisory area may see fog develop later in the evening, with the most widespread and dense fog near sunrise. Conditions should steadily improve by late Saturday morning as visibility increases and the fog lifts.
