Melbourne, FL — The National Weather Service office in Melbourne has issued a High Surf Advisory and a Small Craft Advisory for much of Florida’s Atlantic shoreline through the weekend, as persistent east-northeast onshore winds drive rough surf and dangerous marine conditions.
Beachgoers can expect breakers of 5 to 8 feet, with seas near the Gulf Stream pushing close to 9 feet. Minor beach and dune erosion is possible, particularly around high tide. The advisories stretch from Flagler Beach down to Jupiter Inlet, covering coastal areas of Volusia, Brevard, Indian River, and St. Lucie counties.
A high risk of powerful, potentially deadly rip currents is in effect for all east-central Florida beaches. Residents and visitors are urged to avoid entering the water, obey posted beach warnings, and follow lifeguard directions.
Boaters should prepare for ENE winds of 15 to 25 knots and elevated seas that will create hazardous conditions. Small craft are advised to remain in port until seas subside.
Weather conditions will be mostly dry overall, though a few isolated coastal showers may pop up near the Treasure Coast tonight.
