A new job at a sprawling Anheuser-Busch plant turned deadly for one man after his coworker allegedly stabbed him to death on their first day.
The Jacksonville County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Jason Guthrie, 38, had been arrested for the murder of 22-year-old Antoine Autry following the incident on Thursday afternoon.
The two men, who worked as contractors at the vast beer facility, apparently had no prior feuds. Local sources state that witnesses at the plant heard Autry cry that he had been stabbed before seeing Guthrie depart the scene.
When cops arrived at 4:30 p.m., they discovered Autry with a fatal stab wound in the chest. He was taken to a nearby hospital but died from his injuries. Authorities discovered Guthrie hiding inside one of the industrial buildings and used a K-9 unit to apprehend him.
According to investigators, Guthrie was on probation at the time of his arrest, having pleaded guilty last year to aggravated violence with a deadly weapon for a 2020 stabbing outside a liquor store. According to the arrest report from that prior event, Guthrie “suffers from schizophrenia and PTSD.”
Guthrie is now being held in the John E. Goode Pretrial Detention Facility. The inquiry into the motive for the horrific incident is still ongoing.
