A man has been arrested after a 23-year-old woman was shot during a road rage incident in Edgewater on Monday morning, according to Chicago police.

Dispatcher records indicate that the victim called 911 at 9:05 a.m., reporting a gunshot wound to her shoulder near Sheridan Road and Ardmore Avenue. The woman told officers she was driving a white Ford Escape when she got into a heated disagreement with a man at the Shell gas station at 5701 North Broadway. During the confrontation, the man produced a gun and fired multiple shots.

The woman was transported to St. Francis Hospital in serious condition by EMS.

Minutes after the shooting, police received another 911 call from a woman reporting that her boyfriend had fired a shot at a lady who had hit their car and hurled bottles at them near the shooting scene.

Officers contacted the caller and her partner in the 4800 block of North Marine Drive. Police claimed they arrested the man and discovered a handgun inside his car.

The injured woman is the 11th person shot in Edgewater this year, compared to 20 at this time last year. However, 2024 was an exceptional year, with significantly more incidents than usual. For example, five persons were shot in Edgewater in 2023 and eleven in 2022.
