A crash on the city’s Southwest Side left two people dead and injured a third on Tuesday afternoon, according to Chicago police.
According to police, the crash occurred just before 3 p.m. in the Wrightwood neighborhood’s 2800 block of West 87th Street.
According to police, the victims, a 73-year-old man driving an SUV with a 76-year-old passenger, were traveling east on 87th Street when the driver attempted to turn north onto California Avenue.
According to police, as the SUV driver made the turn, a 21-year-old male driving a sedan west on 87th Street collided with his car head-on.
Following the crash, the 73-year-old man and his 76-year-old passenger were taken to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The sedan’s driver received a right leg injury and was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
According to officers, the driver of the sedan received a penalty for failing to lower speed.
Authorities have yet to identify anyone involved in the incident, and the CPD’s Major Accident Inquiry Unit is conducting an inquiry.
