Man Taken Into Custody On Child Exploitation Charges After Online Sting

A Burlington, Iowa man was apprehended in Henderson County on various felony charges related to the alleged attempted exploitation of a child, authorities revealed this week.

According to the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested Marvin L. Bedenbender, 47, on October 31, 2025, following an investigation into purported online communications between Bedenbender and a person he thought was a minor. The arrest occurred in Oquawka, Illinois.

According to investigators, the case began when deputies received information about possible online child exploitation. Following the investigation, Bedenbender was charged with many felonies, including Traveling to Meet a Minor (Class 3 Felony), Indecent Solicitation of a Child (Class 4 Felony), Grooming (Class 4 Felony), and Solicitation to Meet a Child (Class 4 Felony).

Bedenbender was arrested without incident, according to the sheriff’s office. Officials underscored that everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Sheriff Matthew Link emphasized that the department remains dedicated to safeguarding children in Henderson County by conducting proactive investigations and fostering community vigilance.
