A Hollywood man was taken into custody on drug charges after officers discovered syringes and methamphetamine on him at a local 7-Eleven.
Around 6:25 p.m., a 7-Eleven employee at 2058 U.S. Hwy. 27/441 requested that an officer inspect the fueling station’s dumpster. The Fruitland Park Police Department issued an arrest report on Tuesday, November 4. She received information from a customer about an illegal individual in the neighborhood, eventually identifying him as William Clayton Bass, 35.
The employee indicated that nobody should have been back there, and she was anxious since they needed to take out the trash shortly. Hearing this, the officer approached the bin and noticed activity through the space behind the locked gate. According to the complaint, he announced himself and directed the guy to exit the gate.
Bass ducked behind the dumpster’s corner instead. The officer shouted for him to come out again, and he eventually emerged from behind the fence. According to the complaint, the officer then noticed a syringe and needle poking out of his left pocket.
Bass was unable to provide a valid explanation for his actions back there, forcing police officials to investigate. They discovered two syringes with needles neatly placed under the dumpster’s corner. A subsequent search of Bass’s person discovered the previously spotted syringe and a balled-up piece of aluminum foil containing methamphetamine, according to the report.
He was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and loitering and prowling. He was brought to Lake County Jail, and his bond was set at $4,000.
Bass was also caught in November 2024 for breaking into a nearby church after his food stamps expired, as well as in July 2023, when security cameras assisted a business in identifying him as a burglar.
