The driver of a Mercedes was detained in Wildwood on felony drug charges.
Giovanni Perez, 25, of Summerfield, was driving a white 2013 Mercedes around 11:30 p.m. According to an arrest record from the Wildwood Police Department, the car was stopped on Main Street on Thursday after an officer saw that one of its headlights was not working.
During a traffic stop, a partial marijuana cigar was discovered in the car’s ashtray. It looked like Perez had attempted to conceal a black fanny pack under the driver’s seat.
When an officer searched the fanny pack, he discovered a tiny amount of marijuana, a grinder, and six tablets. Perez attempted to explain that a friend left the fanny pack in the Mercedes. The tablets tested positive for methamphetamine.
The New Jersey native was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine. He was booked into the Sumter County Detention Center and later released after paying a $2,500 bond.
