Police say they have taken into custody three underage teens in connection with a vandalism case at an East Valley elementary school nearly a month ago.
Chandler police said Thursday that a 14- and 16-year-old boy, as well as a 14-year-old girl, were detained on counts of burglary, criminal damage, and interference with an educational institution.
Authorities report that the break-in happened at Conley Elementary School, located southeast of Frye Road and Pennington Drive, at around 1:30 a.m. on October 15.
Surveillance footage showed the suspects entering the classroom and smashing many laptops and tablets to the ground. In addition, authorities reported that they broke into two storage sheds and scattered sports equipment around the playground and rooftop.
Police estimated the damage at $5,000 and called for public assistance in identifying the culprits. The department received several tips, and investigators successfully identified the suspects.
The juvenile court is processing the teenagers, preventing authorities from identifying them. Arizona’s Family is likewise not releasing photographs of the suspects since they are not charged as adults.
