A south suburban man is facing a felony weapons charge after reportedly fleeing a traffic stop and dropping a loaded and stolen gun earlier this month.
Around 4 p.m. on November 2, investigators with the Cook County Sheriff’s Office reported seeing a tan Ford blow a stop sign at Kennedy and Diplomat lanes in Ford Heights.
When authorities turned on their emergency lights, the vehicle came to a stop, then drove away before coming to a stop again.
According to authorities, a passenger, later identified as 28-year-old Trevon Walker, exited the vehicle and ran into a field while grasping his waistband. Officers apprehended him and placed him in custody.
When investigators traced Walker’s journey, they discovered a loaded rifle. The weapon was reported stolen from Georgia, according to the sheriff’s office.
Walker reportedly told detectives after being read his rights that he owned the rifle. According to authorities, he did not have an FOID card or a concealed carry license.
Walker was charged with aggravated unauthorized possession of a weapon, a felony, as well as resisting/obstructing a police officer.
He appeared in court on November 3 at the Markham Courthouse, where a judge ordered him kept in Cook County Jail.
