The man who stabbed a Metro Transit Police sergeant in the face after being captured jumping over the gates in April has received his sentence.
Around 2:30 p.m. on April 15, an MTPD sergeant observed Erik Schleehauf, 43, jumping over the glass barriers to avoid paying while exiting the Navy-Yard-Ballpark Metro Station.
The sergeant followed him as he attempted to depart via the escalator. Schleehauf refused to provide any identity or halt, so the sergeant pepper-sprayed him.
Schleehauf then pulled out a pointed metal bolt and stabbed the sergeant in the face, puncturing his cheek and lower jaw and inflicting nerve damage, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. Schleehauf was arrested at the spot and has been jailed ever since.
On July 31, Schleehauf was found guilty in a jury trial of assault on a police officer while armed, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault with serious bodily damage.
He was sentenced on November 10 to six years in jail followed by three years of supervised release.
