A woman and her mother were taken into custody after the mother attempted to prevent her daughter from being arrested on a domestic abuse complaint, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
On Thursday, November 20, deputies were dispatched to the 8700 block of Kingsway in response to a domestic assault in progress.
Upon arrival, deputies made contact with those involved and began an investigation.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, they discovered evidence of an assault.
As deputies attempted to arrest 32-year-old Mayra Salinas, her mother, 64-year-old Marisela Valenzuela, attempted to interfere by positioning herself between her daughter and the officers.
The Sheriff’s Office stated Valenzuela then fought the deputies, stopping them from handcuffing her daughter.
Both people were taken into custody. Valenzuela, the mother, was charged with assault on a peace officer and interference with public duties and posted a $3,500 bond.
Salinas was charged with assault, family violence and resisting arrest, and his bond was set at $3,500.
