A northeast Houston mother is sounding the alarm after her daughter was almost kidnapped on her way home from school.
According to Ebony Crosby, her 15-year-old daughter had just left Fleming Middle School and was going down Crane Street when a man approached in a truck.
Police said Dario Gonzalez Mata, 68, grabbed the girl, but she escaped.
“I mean, you’re a grown man, and she got on a school uniform shirt. What do you want?’ Because there’s a difference between ladies of the night and kids over here,” laughed Crosby.
Crosby claimed her daughter initially ran home but discovered no one was there because she was in the hospital having a mastectomy at the time.
She dashed to the Dollar Plus Store.
“She was hysterical, she was screaming, and she was crying,” store clerk Sherry Thomas explained.
Thomas claimed she called police and then went into overdrive collecting evidence.
“After I calmed her down to get what she was actually saying, that’s when we started moving into action,” Thomas recalled. “I had three people moving to go get the license plate number. I had somebody else waiting outside just in case he passed back through to get the plate number.”
Thomas stated that the truck did pass by the store but left before anyone could remove the plate.
They were fortunate that the vehicle returned the next day.
When Gonzalez Mata was detained Saturday afternoon, his pants were undone, and he was carrying a child’s items in his pickup, according to police.
Crosby claims that the encounter left an unforgettable impression on her daughter.
“She asked me could she start wearing baggier clothes,” said Crosby. “That’s some (expletive) I told her, that’s not your fault. You can come outside naked if you really wanted to. Nobody had that right to put they hands on you.”
