Snow day in Columbus as Ohio blanketed by winter storm. What to know

Ohioans woke up to a winter wonderland on Dec. 2 after an overnight storm covered much of the state in snow. By noon, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office lifted its level one snow emergency, yet fresh powder continued to blanket the central Ohio landscape.

This isn’t the first snow of the season, but it’s the first major one, prompting school closures, traffic issues, and more. A National Weather Service advisory stayed in place until 10 a.m. on Dec. 2.

Early totals from John Glenn Columbus International Airport reported at least 4.5 inches of snow in Columbus by 7 a.m. from a storm that started late on Dec. 1.

The Dispatch continues to track everything you need to know.

Is my street being plowed?

Columbus offers a website that lets residents track which roads have been cleared and when. According to the site, the city is currently clearing Priority 1 and Priority 2 roadways.

The city follows a three-level system to prioritize streets, with lower-traffic residential roads handled last. These streets are only plowed when four or more inches of snow fall.
