A 34-year-old man is in custody after police say he caused a major scare at a South Beach convenience store.
Surveillance video obtained exclusively by 7News shows Danneil Duncan near the junction of Ninth Street and Washington Avenue on the afternoon of October 19, when he suddenly entered Friendz Food Market and began pointing a gun at customers inside.
“Shoot!” a client exclaims as they discover the armed suspect.
According to Miami Beach Police, the mayhem was not only directed at the customers inside but also at the off-camera clerk standing behind the desk.
When one of the males in the neighborhood sees the pistol, he runs back into the business. He turns to the clerk and inquires whether they have a gun on hand to safeguard the store.
“You got [a gun] on you?” the man inquires.
Police are promptly dispatched to the market.
Jerome Plotkin said he witnessed it all from the other side of Washington Avenue, outside his South Beach Tattoos shop.
“I was scared of a stray bullet killing someone,” according to him.
Plotkin described the ruckus inside and outside the store during the incident.
“Daylight, it was the middle of the day,” Plotkin explained. “Big commotion, screaming, yelling, and cursing.”
After a quick search, Miami Beach Police claimed they discovered Duncan on Ninth Street, just east of the business.
Officers said they found the gun, a knife, and an “extended magazine protruding from his right short pocket.” According to the police report, the magazine was attached to a black Glock 43X.
According to detectives, when approached, Duncan shouted, “Just shoot me.”
There were no guns fired, and officers were able to handcuff him while Plotkin watched.
“They tracked him down and put him down. “They disarmed him and arrested him,” stated one witness.
Duncan, according to authorities, had an extra magazine attached to his rifle, which contained 12 bullets.
He is facing allegations of aggravated assault with a firearm and disorderly behavior.
