A Davenport man has been charged after police said he and another person stole bikes worth more than $1,000.

Jamie Johnston, 44, was charged with:

  • Felony third-degree burglary
  • Felony conspiracy to commit non-forcible felony
  • Felony second-degree theft

According to court filings, Davenport police received a report in August that three bikes had been stolen from a shop on the 3600 block of Eastern Avenue.

The same day, Johnston and another person broke into an unoccupied building and stole three bikes worth $1,649.

Police said they discovered one of the three stolen bikes after investigating Johnston and the other person’s residence in the 1700 block of Gaines Street.

Officers also discovered text messages in which the two discussed stealing and selling the bicycles. Police said the phone also had photographs of the other bikes.

A witness told police that the two went to the store to steal the bikes.

Johnston’s pretrial conference is planned for 10 a.m. on Wednesday. He is being held at the Scott County Jail on a $10,000 bond, according to the jail’s website.
