A Cicero man has been charged with the killing of his 29-year-old roommate, whose body was found after a fire in their apartment last month, authorities said.

According to Cicero police, Naman Alfredo Vazquez has been charged with aggravated arson and concealment of a homicidal death in connection with the killing of Jesus Nunez on November 3.

Around 9:17 p.m., emergency crews responded to an apartment complex in the 1800 block of South 51st Avenue, where they discovered a roaring fire and began evacuating occupants. Firefighters located Nunez’s body on the first level, according to officials.

Investigators eventually discovered that an accelerant was used to start the fire.

An autopsy found Nunez died of a gunshot wound to the head before the fire was started, according to officials.

According to police, Vazquez was inside the flat when Nunez died and the fire broke out.

Following the assault, Vazquez reportedly drove the victim’s vehicle west across Texas and into New Mexico. He was apprehended on November 4 during a traffic stop by New Mexico State Police.

Vazquez was imprisoned in a New Mexico jail until being extradited to Illinois on Friday.

The investigation is underway.
