The jury trial for the 89-year-old man accused of causing a hit-and-run accident outside the Parma Marc’s that injured a mother and her two-year-old son was set to begin Monday in Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas; however, George Balasko accepted a plea deal.

Balasko pleaded guilty to two counts of failure to stop after an accident and was sentenced to one year of probation with 30 days of home detention.

As part of the plea, he lost his driver’s license for six years and was ordered to pay court fees.

The collision occurred around 7 p.m. on March 21 outside the store in the 7500 block of W. Ridgewood Dr.

Parma police reported that a car struck Maddox and her two-year-old son, Genesis Ojikut, as they entered the parking lot.

The supermarket cart rolled multiple times, propelling Genesis into the air.

Both mother and kid were sent to MetroHealth Medical Center.

Genesis sustained a severe head injury, multiple facial injuries, and a fractured arm.

Police said blurry camera footage and public suggestions helped them identify Balasko.
