A western Kentucky woman was taken into custody on Friday after reportedly pepper spraying a DoorDash order she delivered in Indiana a week ago.
According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, Kourtney Stevenson, 29, was arrested by the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office.
Vanderburgh sheriff’s officers said that on December 7, a man and his wife ordered food from DoorDash shortly after midnight.
He stated that after eating the food, they both felt a burning feeling in their mouths, noses, throats, and stomachs and began vomiting.
The DoorDash driver placed the meal off camera on the doorstep and took a photo, according to the doorbell footage. The DoorDasher allegedly sprayed something from a small aerosol can attached to her keychain in the direction of the meal before leaving.
The video was sent to detectives, who used DoorDash data to identify the driver as Stevenson.
Investigators determined Stevenson lived near Paducah and called her for an interview, to which she consented.
During the original phone call, Stevenson stated that she was in Evansville to visit her father and was working for DoorDash while there.
They claimed she told them she used pepper spray, not on the food, but on a spider she encountered while delivering the delivery.
The sheriff’s office claims that the overnight low that night was 35 degrees. They stated that at that time and temperature, outdoor spiders in Indiana were not active.
According to investigators, Stevenson called back later to say she would not be coming in for the arranged interview.
Detectives then obtained an arrest warrant for Stevenson and contacted McCracken County officials, who executed the arrest.
She is charged in Indiana with two charges of felony assault resulting in moderate injury and two counts of criminal consumer product tampering.
Stevenson is being held for extradition to Indiana.
