Eight Pennsylvania teens, ages 14 and 15, were apprehended while in Florida for a football tournament, according to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.

According to Judd, police were summoned to Dick’s Sporting Goods on Saturday, Dec. 6, just before 11 a.m., for a report of juveniles shoplifting. According to the police report, three of the teenagers fled Dick’s, where police were waiting. The other five were apprehended inside.

The eight suspects were divided into two groups: Johnson, Bryan, and Abdul-Haqq were inside Dick’s, strolling around and looking at the products. The second party, consisting of Hudgens, Myers, Speller, Smith, and Scott, then entered the store, where Hudgens purchased an item in exchange for a Dick’s bag.

According to the report, the teenagers then started loading the bag and a black backpack with items. In total, the eight attempted to steal $2,296.07 worth of products.

Law authorities recognized the teens as members of the United Thoroughbreds, a youth football team from Philadelphia, who were attending the Prolifix Nationals in Polk County. Raekwon Bynes, 29, appeared at the business and confirmed their attendance for a game later that day.

Judd stated that the adolescents were disqualified from participating in the event because they were charged with a felony.

“These juveniles were not from Polk County; they came here from Philly for a football tournament, and instead of representing their team with pride, they chose to steal – they are Thoroughbred thieves,” Judd said. “Let this be clear: it doesn’t matter if you’re from here or visiting, if you break the law in Polk County, you will be arrested and held accountable.”
