A Franklin County man is charged with child endangerment after police claim a child in his care tested positive for cocaine.

Jesse Allen Courtney, 42, of Chambersburg, allegedly admitted to possessing and using cocaine while staying with the child at a hotel on the 1100 block of Sheller Avenue, according to State Police.

Authorities launched an investigation after receiving a report from Franklin County Child Protective Services.

Courtney informed investigators that he kept the narcotics in his wallet, which would have been available for the victim once he left the room. Courtney stated that he left his wallet unsecured on top of a dresser in the room throughout the day and that he may not have cleaned up properly after using the cocaine in the bathroom, thereby exposing the victim to it.

Courtney faces a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of minors.

A preliminary hearing has been set for January 6, 2026, according to court records.
