A Mesa woman has been found guilty of embezzling funds from the bank she managed in the East Valley.
Brooke McDonough, 35, was convicted of various offenses during a two-week trial in federal court that concluded this month, according to the United States Attorney’s Office in Arizona.
Between June 2021 and February 2022, the defendant embezzled $655,000 from the Mesa bank she managed. Prosecutors allege that the defendant stole cash from ATM machines and the branch’s vault before depositing it into personal accounts via ATMs at other banks.
According to authorities, McDonough divided the ATM deposits into little amounts to avoid having the bank file transaction reports for deposits more than $10,000.
In addition to the embezzlement charge, the defendant was convicted of six charges of transactional money laundering and five counts of structuring transactions to avoid reporting requirements.
