Chicago police are warning the public about another series of Facebook Marketplace robberies, claiming six people were mugged in Morgan Park while attempting to sell gym shoes they offered for sale online. Two of the robberies happened last night.
According to CPD, an armed robber using the account name “Serving Best Deals” is responding to advertisements for Air Jordans and other Nike brand shoes for sale on the marketplace. Upon finalizing the transactions, the would-be sellers encounter one or two men brandishing guns and stealing the shoes without payment.
Police provided the following list of robbery sites and times:
- 1700 block of West Steuben on December 3 at 1:30 p.m.
- 1700 block of West Edmaire on December 4 at 4:15 p.m.
- 11300 block of South Davol on December 10 at 1:37 p.m.
- 11300 block of South Davol on December 10 at 3:49 p.m.
- 1600 block of West Monterey on December 18 at 5:20 p.m.
- 11000 block of South Ashland on December 18 at 8:17 p.m.
According to CPD, the principal offender is a Black man aged 18 to 21, around 5’10” to 6 feet tall, weighing 150 pounds, with a light complexion, dreadlocks, a black puffy coat, gray jeans, white Jordan shoes, and tattoos on both hands. A second suspect is a Black man between the ages of 25 and 30, standing about 5’11” and dressed entirely in black.
