A man is in custody after police say he shot his gun many times inside his home and then at authorities, resulting in a SWAT situation that shut down a Scottsdale neighborhood on Sunday.
Around 1 p.m., police arrived to the neighborhood of Thomas Road and 68th Street after neighbors contacted 911 to report hearing guns fired inside someone’s home.
When cops came, they evacuated residents from surrounding homes out of extreme caution. According to police, no one was inside the house at the time of the event, except for the suspect, Vaughan Hanson, 27, who was later identified.
According to police, Hanson began shooting at policemen from inside the home as they were getting into position. Two parked police vehicles were struck. Nobody was within them.
According to authorities, the gunshots also caused damage to the outside of an adjacent apartment building.
Hanson exited the house and surrendered calmly shortly after 2:30 p.m., according to authorities. No one was injured, and no officers fired their guns.
During a search of his home, authorities discovered a gun with many shell cases.
Hason was arrested and charged with 13 charges of aggravated assault on an officer, 13 counts of endangerment, one crime of possessing narcotics, one offense of discharging a firearm within city limits, and one count of disorderly conduct with a weapon.
