A suspect has been apprehended in connection with the kidnapping of a woman in Ciudad Juárez, where her captors extorted $5,000 from her brother in the United States.

On December 23, Mexican authorities executed an arrest warrant against Elizabeth P. O. for aggravated kidnapping.

She was formally charged and placed under preventative arrest. During a hearing on December 26, she was ordered to stand trial based on evidence presented by the Public Ministry.

The inquiry found that on December 7, Elizabeth P. O. and several others, some of whom have already been identified, kidnapped the victim, took her cell phone, and detained her at a residence in the Francisco Villa district.

The captors forced her to record recordings to send to her brother in the United States, demanding payment for her release.

Approximately $5,000 was deposited in the accounts of numerous participants.

The victim was released on December 20 after being turned over to a male accomplice.

The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office is still conducting an investigation to determine the truth and bring all parties involved to justice. The accused is deemed innocent until proven guilty by a judicial authority, according to Article 13 of the National Code of Criminal Procedure.
