Mississippi officials are investigating the finding of 207 dead snow geese dumped at a local site.
The Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office has described the occurrence as both unlawful and unethical. According to department remarks, the birds were discovered abandoned in a nearby dumping area rather than being processed or disposed of in compliance with wildlife standards.
According to WAPT News in Jackson, the inquiry was launched after an off-duty deputy allegedly spotted and recorded someone dumping the carcasses. Authorities reported that they obtained identifying information from the recording.
In a response to the individual involved, the agency stated: “We have your information, and an off-duty deputy was able to record you dumping. We’ll be in touch very soon.”
While hunting snow geese is legal under some state and federal restrictions, abandoning such a significant amount of game is a violation of conservation laws. Investigators are presently determining the circumstances surrounding the birds’ harvest and subsequent disposal.
There have been no arrests made at this time. The Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department is heading the investigation and encourages anyone with information to contact them directly.
