An Ole Miss football player was detained in Alabama only a few days before the Rebels were scheduled to play in the Sugar Bowl, according to WTVA.

Dante Jovon Core, a freshman defensive back from Florida, was arrested the day after Christmas after a traffic stop.

WTVA reported that the halt occurred in Andalusia. Officers reported that the car was traveling at speeds greater than 110 mph and did not have a visible license plate.

During the stop, cops reported smelling marijuana, so they searched the vehicle and discovered drug paraphernalia and marijuana.

According to WTVA, Core was charged with marijuana possession as well as drug paraphernalia.
