A Sumterville teenager was detained for allegedly brandishing a gun at a New Year’s Eve party.
Brian Lee Davis, 18, went to a New Year’s Eve party with a bonfire at an unidentified home in Center Hill around 10:55 p.m. Wednesday. While there, a dispute erupted between two partygoers, and the wife of one of Davis’s friends stepped in to ask them to leave. Davis responded by getting in her face and displaying a handgun from his waistband, according to a Sumter County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
Davis grew verbally aggressive, and she was concerned for her safety as he pointed the gun at her. He threatened to shoot her with it, so she shoved him aside. He then hit her in the face, according to the report.
He then waved the firearm about the gathering, which had a large number of people in attendance, and threatened to shoot them all. He also threatened the wife that he would enter her home and shoot all of the children inside. According to the allegation, her husband tackled Davis to stop him from firing the rifle.
The spouse put Davis in a headlock and then departed the party. Deputies eventually discovered him in a white pickup vehicle near the crossroads of County Road 48 and County Road 713 in Center Hill. A further check of his vehicle turned up a black Taurus handgun in the center console, according to the report.
The other party guests seemed to be inebriated and uncooperative with law enforcement. They stated that a violent altercation had occurred but did not elaborate. According to the report, none of them, except for one witness, claimed to have seen a gun.
Davis was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and battery. He was taken to the Sumter County Detention Center and freed after posting a $5,500 bond.
