A man was sentenced for vehicular manslaughter after driving 150 mph and colliding with the back of a pickup truck on State Road 408 in November 2021.
On Monday, a judge sentenced Omaykan Guler to 112 months in prison, which is little more than nine years. He was given 197 days of jail time credit, which will be applied to his sentence. His driver’s license was also revoked for life.
Omaykan Guler was arrested in November 2025 for the crash on November 8, 2021, which closed SR-408 at South Crystal Lake Drive for more than 8 hours.
Orlando police say Guler was driving a white Porsche when he rear-ended a blue Chevrolet pickup truck, killing 57-year-old John Richardson. According to records, debris from the crash damaged a silver Dodge SUV and a white Volvo semi-truck.
According to a police report, one of the drivers involved in the incident stated that he believed the Porsche was moving at least 120 mph. According to the assessment, the truck was most likely moving at 59 mph when it was hit from behind by the Porsche, which was going 150 mph.
According to the report, Guler said he rammed into the back of the pickup truck because it was stopped on the road, which police say does not match other witness testimony.
He told police after the incident that “it happened so fast” and “I have no (expletive) idea how fast I was going” before stating he was traveling between 55 and 60 mph and didn’t see the other car, according to the report.
