A 20-year-old man was sentenced Monday to at least eight years in prison after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the 2022 murder behind a Raising Cane’s in Colerain Township.

According to court records, Tydavioun Howard, who was 17 at the time, was the shooter who killed 19-year-old Rodney Harris Jr.

Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Judge Robert Winkler sentenced Howard to eight to twelve years in prison, with the possibility of parole after two to five years.

If Howard breaks parole, he could face up to nine months in prison, with further violations potentially increasing his existing sentence by up to 50%.

Nine months after the fatal shooting, police captured Howard in what they described as a “targeted attack.”

According to Hamilton County authorities, Howard rear-ended another car while driving down Galbraith Road in August 2023.

When the other motorist got out and approached Howard’s car, prosecutors alleged Howard struck him and fled away.

Police who arrived on the site said that the man was gravely injured and unresponsive.

Howard was indicted on murder, felonious assault, and marijuana trafficking charges by a Hamilton County grand jury on December 20, 2023.

His murder trial was scheduled to begin on January 20, but he instead accepted a plea agreement.

Howard also has narcotics accusations. In September 2023, he was indicted on four counts of trafficking fentanyl-related compounds and two counts of cocaine possession.

His next court hearing on the charges is slated for January 27.
