A woman was taken into custody after allegedly causing a scene at a Publix in the Columbia region over the weekend.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department said Cardesha Gilmore, 35, was arrested on Sunday and charged with indecent exposure, stealing, public disorderly behavior, pedestrian in the highway, and assault while resisting arrest.

According to an RCSD incident report, Gilmore was discovered attempting to steal four packs of steaks by staff at the Publix on Hardscrabble Road. She allegedly became irate and began to urinate on the store’s floor.

When cops arrived, Gilmore allegedly fled and ran into traffic on Hardscrabble Road. She eventually complied with requests to stop and was arrested.

According to documents, Gilmore attempted to flee after being carried to a patrol car, but he quickly lost balance and was held. According to the sheriff’s department, Gilmore attempted to kick a deputy in the face but was unsuccessful.

She reportedly lacked identification, and the only item discovered by the deputies was an empty bottle of oxycodone prescribed to someone else, which did not match Gilmore’s name, according to DMV records.

The RCSD stated that Gilmore was initially named as a “Jane Doe” in an incident report, but she was publicly identified as the suspect on Tuesday.

According to records, Gilmore was detained at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on a bond of approximately $21,800 on Tuesday afternoon.

This is a developing story.
