Man Faces Murder Charges in Chicago Parking Lot Shooting

A man was charged with murder following a shooting in Chicago’s Grand Crossing neighborhood in November.

According to police, Jameel Murphy, 35, reportedly shot a 35-year-old man as he exited his car in a parking lot in the 7600 block of South Stony Island Avenue on November 12.

The victim was shot several times and taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he later died. The Cook County medical examiner’s office recognized him as Akeem Anderson.

Murphy was detained near Crown Point, Indiana, on Monday by Chicago police and members of the United States Marshals Great Lakes Regional Task Force.

Murphy is due in court on Wednesday.
