7 Men Convicted in Violent Carjacking Spree Across D.C. and Prince George’s County

After several days of deliberation, a jury convicted seven men for their roles in a series of armed carjackings in 2023. Jaelen Jordan, Warren Montgomery, Bryon Gillum, Isaiah Flowers, Jahkai Goff, Taj Giles, and Irshaad Ellis-Bey were convicted of terrorizing several people in the District of Columbia and Prince George’s County, Maryland.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced the verdict, emphasizing the gravity of the offenses and the extensive collaboration of several law enforcement agencies, including the Metropolitan Police Department, FBI, USMS, and ATF, in bringing the defendants to justice. The evidence produced in court revealed a planned series of violent thefts, with the accused coordinating armed carjackings that resulted, on one instance, in the targeting of an elderly person.

The convictions involved a wide range of offenses, including conspiracy to conduct a violent crime and trafficking stolen property. According to statements collected by the Department of Justice, Goff was convicted of the February 27 carjacking, Flowers of the February and May incidents, and Ellis-Bey of the February occurrence. Meanwhile, Montgomery was convicted of carjackings in April and May, while Giles was charged with offenses in February and April. Jordan, who was engaged in all three cases, faced the greatest range of charges, while Gillum was convicted for his role in the February and April crimes.

The carjackings, which occurred on February 27, April 27, and May 16, involved the theft of high-end vehicles at gunpoint, including a Porsche Cayenne and a BMW X6. The operation was complex and audacious, with the culprits using a previously carjacked Dodge Charger to commit one of their crimes and then using an apartment building garage as a staging area for selling the stolen vehicles. Jordan was caught on May 17, 2023, the day after attempting to sell a Porsche Cayenne GTS stolen from a senior citizen the day before. The additional defendants were apprehended between October and December of the same year, as stated in the press announcement.

According to U.S. Attorney Pirro, the convictions were the result of a collaborative effort by several agencies, including the Prince George’s County Police Department and Assistant United States Attorneys Gregory Evans and Emily Clarke. She emphasized that the cross-jurisdictional task team was important in gathering evidence and establishing the case against the accused. Authorities stated that the investigation centered on a series of violent carjackings, and the convictions are a significant step in addressing those crimes in the affected neighborhoods.
